What does guaranteed packing mean?
Your belongings are packed by our teams with special materials and transported with comprehensive and transit insurance. Between Europe and Turkey your items travel for several days, so good packing is essential.
Our materials
- Bubble wrap for sofas, tables and delicate surfaces
- Moving blankets and stretch film
- Double-wall boxes and wardrobe cartons
- Corner protectors for mirrors, glass and pictures
Why packing matters so much on international moves
A move between Turkey and Europe means thousands of kilometres by road, border crossings, possibly a customs inspection and several loading and unloading operations. Your belongings are exposed to vibration, temperature changes and humidity. Packing that is fine for a move within the same city is often too weak for this route. That is why we use special materials and a fixed procedure, proven over thousands of moves, for every international removal.
Our packing materials
- Double-walled removal boxes in various sizes – small ones for books and heavy items, large ones for textiles and light objects.
- Wardrobe boxes with a rail, so suits, dresses and coats travel hanging and crease-free.
- Bubble wrap for furniture surfaces, pictures, mirrors and electrical appliances.
- Stretch film that secures drawers and doors and protects upholstery from dust and moisture.
- Corner and edge protectors made of cardboard or foam for table tops, wardrobes and frames.
- Tissue and packing paper for crockery, glasses and porcelain.
- Mattress and sofa covers that keep upholstery clean and dry.
- Made-to-measure wooden crates for particularly delicate items such as glass panels, marble, paintings or antiques.
How we pack room by room
Kitchen
Plates are wrapped individually in paper and placed upright in the box – this spreads impacts better than stacking them flat. Glasses get extra padding and gaps are filled with paper. Pots and pans serve as containers for small kitchen utensils. We do not transport food; use up spices and opened packets beforehand.
Living room
Sofas are wrapped in film or covers, wooden legs unscrewed and packed separately. Televisions travel in a special box or thick bubble wrap with the screen protected. Books go into small boxes so they do not become too heavy. Rugs are rolled and wrapped in film.
Bedroom
Wardrobes are dismantled, the parts numbered and fitted with edge protectors. Clothes go into wardrobe boxes or folded into cartons. Mattresses get a protective cover. You carry jewellery and valuables yourself.
Children’s room and bathroom
Toys are packed sorted by type to make unpacking easier. Liquids from the bathroom should be tightly closed and packed in bags – or better, used up before the move.
Our numbering system
Every box and every piece of furniture gets a running number and a room note. The inventory list shows the contents, the room and, where relevant, a note such as “fragile” or “this way up” for each number. This system has three advantages: customs can find a specific box immediately during an inspection, the team can carry every box straight to the right room at the destination, and you can see at a glance on delivery whether everything is there.
Insurance cover: what is included
Our transports are covered by transport insurance and comprehensive (all-risk) cover. The exact scope and sum insured are stated in your quote, based on the value of your household goods, which we agree with you. For particularly valuable items – artwork, antiques or high-quality musical instruments – we recommend a separate declaration of value.
Please note: full insurance cover applies primarily to items packed by our team. For boxes you pack yourself, liability for breakage inside may be limited, because we could not control the quality of the packing. Furniture, electrical appliances and fragile items should therefore always be packed by us.
What to do if something is damaged
- On delivery, check furniture and boxes for visible damage and note it on the delivery note.
- Photograph the damage and the packaging before disposing of it.
- Report hidden damage found during unpacking as soon as possible – the deadline is stated in your quote.
- Your contact person forwards the claim to the insurer and supports you through settlement.
In many cases minor damage to furniture can be fixed directly by a repair. We discuss with you which solution is quickest and simplest.
What you can pack yourself
If you want to save money, you can pack non-critical items yourself: books, clothes, bedding, toys, fabric or plastic decorations. We deliver the right materials a few days before the move and give tips on filling boxes properly: heavy items at the bottom, fill gaps, no more than about 20–25 kg per box, and label every box. Our team takes care of furniture, electrical appliances, glass, porcelain, mirrors and pictures.
Special packing for special items
Pictures, mirrors and glass
Large pictures and mirrors get corner protectors, are wrapped in bubble wrap and placed in suitable boxes or wooden frames. Glass panels from tables and cabinets always travel upright, never flat. For especially large or valuable pieces we build a made-to-measure wooden crate.
Musical instruments
Pianos are secured with special blankets and straps and carried by experienced staff. Guitars, violins and other string instruments should travel in their own case with extra padding. Because wooden instruments react to temperature and humidity, let them acclimatise for a few days after arrival before tuning them.
Electronics and appliances
TVs, computers and monitors are packed in special boxes or with thick padding. Washing machines need a drum transit bolt; fridges and freezers must be defrosted, cleaned and dry. After transport, fridges should stand for a few hours before being switched on so the coolant can settle.
Rugs and textiles
Hand-knotted rugs are cleaned, rolled – never folded – and wrapped in breathable material. For longer storage we recommend moth protection. Curtains, blankets and cushions travel in clean, closed boxes or bags.
Protection from humidity and temperature
On long routes and during interim storage, condensation can form. We make sure furniture and appliances are packed dry and use materials that prevent condensation where needed. Wooden furniture should not be wrapped completely airtight for long storage periods. Our team decides on the most suitable packing according to route, season and storage time.
Packing service tailored to you
You decide how much we take on. With the full service our team packs the entire household – from the bookshelf to the spice jars. With the partial service you pack non-critical items and we handle furniture, appliances and fragile items. With the materials service we only supply boxes and padding. On request we also unpack at the destination, fill cupboards and take the materials away.
Common packing mistakes – and how we avoid them
- Boxes that are too heavy: a large box full of books tears easily. We use small boxes for heavy items.
- Half-filled boxes: they collapse when stacked. We fill gaps with paper or textiles.
- Plates stacked flat: they break more easily. We stand individually wrapped plates upright.
- Missing labels: unlabelled boxes end up in the wrong room and slow down inspections. Every box has a number and room note.
- Loose screws: without labels, reassembly becomes a search. Labelled bags are fixed to each piece of furniture.
Packing for interim storage
If your belongings are stored with our sister brand FlexiDepo before delivery, we pay particular attention to storage-ready packing. Upholstered furniture gets breathable covers, wooden furniture is not sealed airtight, and boxes are stacked so the lower ones are not crushed. The numbering stays in place, so individual items can be found at any time and delivered in advance – for example the kitchen and beds first, the rest later.
Unpacking at the destination
Many customers underestimate how long unpacking takes. On request our team handles this too: crockery goes into the kitchen cupboards, books onto the shelves, clothes into the wardrobe, and we take all the packing material away. That way you can cook and sleep in your new home on the very first evening instead of living among stacks of boxes. Families with small children and older customers especially appreciate this service. You decide whether we unpack every room or only selected areas such as the kitchen and bedroom, and we follow your wishes so you do not have to rearrange everything later.
Sustainable packing
We use sturdy boxes that can be reused several times and take packing material back after unpacking on request. Bubble wrap and boxes still in good condition are used again on future moves. This reduces waste without compromising the protection of your belongings. Old furniture you no longer need can be donated or disposed of responsibly on request.
Packing and customs go together
Good packing also makes customs clearance easier. When customs opens a box, the contents must match the list and the box must be securely closed again afterwards. Our teams pack so that inspections are possible without compromising protection. Find out more about clearance on our customs clearance page.
